Description

I always start of each and everyone of my colorpencil drawings with a very loose sketch or gesture using a terra cotta color. On a rare occasion I might use a dark green. It’s best to use terra cotta because it can be easily erased and won’t show up on the finished product. If you are not sure the gesture you have drawn is not quite what you intended, you can erased some of the bad parts, but my suggestion is to just do another. The gesture is supposed to be a very quick drawing that captures the essence of the subject in just a few very lose pencil strokes. Start by mapping out all of the elements or facial features with just lines and oval shapes and making sure the spacing is correct. Unless you're imitating Picasso, we all hate that illustration that comes out with one eye lower than the other. This procedure will help with that. So think of it as a template of placement. It really shouldn't take much time at all. This one took a total of 15 mins.
