TO LOVE.
A lot has occurred in my life since I posted my last series, Lonely Girl: A Tribute To Edward Hopper
[link] (by the way, thanks for all of your support, comments and favorites, I was a bit surprised at the overwhelming response considering that they were all remakes) So what did occur? Well, for one, I am in a new studio and I absolutely love it! The move was hell, but in the end it all paid off. So this will mark the first series (or sessions) to be completed in my new place. Not sure if that makes a difference on the quality of ones work, but if you see any difference, do let me know. LOL.
Also, on a very sad note, as some of you may already know, I lost a really good friend during that time. I recently did a portrait in honor of his memory entitled This Charming Man
[link] to express my feelings about it. Its really the only way I seem to know how to. I think of him often and think I always will. I know when someone passes away, you always hear people saying, he was one of the sweetest and kindest person youll ever meet, well, he truly was that, and I am not just saying it. If you would have gotten the opportunity, or privilege to have met This Charming Man, you would understand why I consider myself one of the lucky ones to have known him in life.
On a much shyer note, I met someone really special since I posted my last series. Someone that gave me those warm fuzzies you get when you really start to like someone, you know what I mean? Unfortunately, there were some obstacles that we were both afraid to take on or challenge that ended our brief relationship. Nevertheless, I am one to believe that no matter how long something last, if the relationship made some kind of an impact in your life, its still something worth cherishing.
Okay, sorry folks--I didn't mean to get all mushy and stuff, but I thought Id share a little bit of my personal side because it MIGHT, POSSIBLY, PERHAPS be somehow related to the mood of this new series. MAYBE.
Speaking of my series, if youve been following most of them up to this point, you might already know that I tend to draw from some kind of artistic influence with each one I post. This time around I looked to the artistic bravery of French painter Gustave Courbet (June 10, 1819 December 10, 1877). Best known as an innovator in Realism, but to me he was truly an artist who was way ahead of his time. Please look him up kids (and you adults, too!) But for my under age audience, please get some permission from your parents or guardians before venturing off in search of Courbets work, some of it can be a little on the risque side of art. And as an extra added treat, if you just so happen to live in or perhaps maybe visiting the New York area real soon (this means you, Geo!

, some of his amazing works are currently on exhibit until May 18 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Besides drawing heavily on Courbet, I recently visited Florida for the first time (sad, huh?) And stopped by the Salvador Dalí Museum. Good stuff, however Dalí is always kind of an inspiration for me. But seeing his work live again, ignited my creative spirits once more!
And, oh yeah...besides those two masters, I am always taking some inspiration from all of you one way or another, so keep on inspiring me!

Okay, Ive said way too much, please go and (hopefully) enjoy my new series, Myleti
[link] and as always, let me know what you think.
Peace,
O

This is a fantastic journal and it seems like you covered a lot of ground, if not all. For me, it's a funny subject, because like you said, I think there is a person (one or two) who goes around and just looks for stuff that they can complain about. I am still a bit upset about one of my deviations ("123 (You Her Me)" that DA removed without reason. I feel that it was a beautiful piece of art, period. Maybe someone had a problem with it because it was 3 adult women making out? Maybe they didn't like that it was aliens making out with a human? Who knows. Who cares. But all and all it was nothing gross or offending about it, so I feel like it should not have been reported. I even put the adult content filter on it. Which I tend to do anyway (and I agree it does suck to have to) because I feel if you are on this site, you must be ready to view ART as ART anyway it comes. And some art contains nudity. It's a simple fact. It always had nude figures even way back when it first started. That seemed to be all folks painted at one time.
Anyway, I love this journal, put it up and I will leave the same comment on it!
Thanks for sharing!

My Concerns
Artist stop censoring your own work. If you follow DA's rules for posting adult oriented work , warnings and age locks, and some one still complains it's because they were looking for something to raise hell about. By censoring your own work you are creating an atmosphere where the prudish minority is restricting the rights of the majority in what art can be displayed. This emboldens them and empowers to make worse demands latter. I was lead to believe DA was a free from censorship web sight when I first logged on, I have seen sense then more artists blocked who followed the rules. I have also noted at least 3 artist hunters who only pleasure is to complain about adult oriented art. You make an agreement with DA when you log on But DA also makes one with you, if you follow there submission rules there should not be any reprisals. If the DA staff is allowing Art Hunting because it is to much trouble to deal with then shame on them! For the most part I love Deviant Art's site and other than the above I have few complaints. If you feel they discriminate and you would have to censor your own work to display it then display elsewhere. Be proud of your work, not cowed by bizzy-bodies who can't imagine beautiful work because there life is drab and passionless.
4 Key Points
#1. A nude is nude. Partial nude is not a nude.
#2. Frontal Nudes expose what is up front male or female.
#2a "A frontal nude of person without there genitals exposed is an underwear ad," as my old art teacher use to say in the class I payed to much for," and are not nudes".
#3. Artfully placed smoke effects that cover only genitals are fake and an insult. They are not nudes, see #2a.
#4. Shadows that conceal the details, but not the presence of (ie: one can see a defined shape.) the genitals is nudity.
#4a. A shadow or blackness that totally obscures the presence of the genitals but leaves the rest of the body exposed is a cop out. One can see as much at the beach. No matter how good the piece ,the viewer is left with the feeling of incompleteness.
"It is better to shock the audience than leaving the work incomplete" La'Sevt painter 18th century.
The Big Fear
I agree one one point: pedophilia is wrong!! I also understand that not all young nudes are pedophilia. A baby on a bear skin rug in the nude is not pedo. A locker room full of teenage girls showering is fan service not pedo. any sexual depiction ,or through innuendo, of some one not of the age of consent is pedo. If stated that they are of the age of consent or already of sexual maturity and are observably so ,in the case "photographic art", then by International law covering the protection of minors it is NOT Pedophilia!
Photographic Art depicting obvious minors in sexual positions with or without an adult in accompaniment is pedophilia.
In the protection of minors I side with the letter of International law, ,period.
